Surya is an open OCR system that recognizes text in many dozens of languages. Beyond the text itself it detects the page layout — paragraphs, tables, images — and reading order, making it a good base for document digitization. It is used from Python and runs faster with a GPU. Check the project for the license and commercial-use limits.
